The Meaning of “the Fall”

Posted by Remy on April 2, 2009

The “fall” of Adam doesn’t mean the accident whereby Adam brought sin into the world, but comes from the Latin “fallere” which means to deceive, to cheat, to betray. Adam’s sin was not one of ignorance, but of betrayal.

Is there a use of the word “fall” in Scripture you’re thinking of?

No. I just don’t want people to think that “Fall” means accident. Cause it don’t.

Anymore, I’m more interested in cautioning against using the word “fall” whatsoever. It’s not the way the Scriptures talk of what happened in the garden.
